Botox®, Dermal Fillers and Chemical Peels.

The Abbott Clinic in Devon is pleased to launch an exciting new non-surgical clinic in liaison with Helen Rawles RGN of HR Aesthetics.  Helen is fully trained in administering a range of medical aesthetic treatments including wrinkle relaxing injections (Botox), dermal fillers such as Restylane, Sculptra™ ‘the liquid facelift’, and chemical peels in Devon and Cornwall.

Many of the treatments available actually work as preventative treatments, therefore actually reducing the formation of new lines and wrinkles, and should ideally be used as a combination of treatments to get the desired results (‘combination therapy’). It is advisable though to start with one procedure, and see if you like the effects produced, before trying another procedure.  The Abbott Clinic in Devon will be happy to advise and recommend as required.

The Abbott Clinic prides itself on offering specialised effective treatments by experienced practitioners.  During your free consultation we like to take the time to work with you, so that you get the results you want.  We aim to give a full assessment of your needs and requirements about all your treatment options, and to give an honest opinion as to what, if any treatment will benefit you.  It should be noted that a client’s expectations should be realistic before commencing treatment.

Ageing is a natural process, and many people want to feel good for their age with a natural look, and seek out ways to help them achieve that.  Everyone has the right to maintain a fresh and youthful look, no matter what their age, and this is now possible with the range of aesthetic procedures available to enhance your natural features. With the range of treatments available, any areas on your face that give cause for concern can now be treated simply, safely and effectively.  All treatments are suitable for women and men.

Wrinkle relaxing injections
Often referred to as Botox (or more recently as Vistabel®), this medicine is the world’s leading medical cosmetic procedure, and has the highest patient satisfaction. Particularly effective on ‘dynamic’ lines caused by over-active muscle contraction such as frown lines, forehead creases and laughter lines.  Treatment targets the muscles, and can act as a preventative for facial ageing.

Botox (a purified protein) works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles to lessen movement, so that the line can no longer be made.  Another benefit is a lifting effect on the upper eye area, giving a natural wide awake look.  Following treatment the results can be seen in 3-14 days.

The product breaks down slowly (approximately 3-6 months) in the body; the areas treated then gradually regain mobility and function.

As a guideline for patients considering Botox,  treatments are required every three months for the first year, but if this treatment plan is followed, treatments required during the second year will be less frequent as the treatments will last longer each time a procedure is carried out.  Ultimately treatments will last at least 6 months.

Dermal Fillers/Restylane
Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which is something we naturally have present in our skin to attract water, and keep it plump.  As we age our hyaluronic acid reduces causing lines and wrinkles to begin forming. We also lose subcutaneous fat which results in loss of volume.  Dermal fillers work by injecting hyaluronic acid back into the skin under a line or wrinkle to literally push it out, so that it disappears instantly.  This plumps the skin out and replaces lost volume.

Popular areas to be treated are nose to mouth lines, smoker’s lines, mouth downturns, frown lines, fine lines around the eyes and forehead. Dermal fillers are good for individual lines, and the effect of the treatment can be seen immediately. There are different grades of dermal fillers for treating fine, medium and deep lines. As a guideline the first treatment always lasts the least amount of time; typically 5 months.  If the client returns for the second treatment when advised there will still be some product left in the skin, and therefore the second treatment will be ‘layered’ on top and will last longer.  Each treatment after this will last longer each time if this plan is followed.  Subsequent treatments can be expected to last for 6-9 months.

Scuptra™ ‘The Liquid Facelift’
Sculptra™ is a volumising agent as it reduces deep wrinkles and folds, and replaces the fullness of your face which has been lost to the ageing process.  Sculptra™ works by stimulating your own facial collagen production to replenish your skin, and so providing natural results.  It works gradually to restore what has been lost, and once your treatment plan is complete, the results can last for up to 3 years. This treatment is good for clients who have several lines they need to correct, and also general loss of volume resulting in a ‘softening’ effect.

Sculptra™ takes time to work; results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks.  Generally 2-3 treatments are necessary to obtain the required results.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a popular treatment to help correct a variety of skin problems including pigmentation (brown patches / sun damage), fine lines and surface scarring (including acne scars).  They can also help to reduce the effects of smoking and sun damage, or simply for rejuvenation.

A chemical peel is a chemical solution applied to the surface of the skin to remove, or peel away dead skin cells, and promote new cell growth.  Once the outer layers of the skin are removed, new layers begin to form in their place resulting in a ‘fresher’ appearance.  The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The peels can be performed on the face, hands and all other body areas.

Glycolic peels (mild or superficial peels) help to improve the skin’s tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines.  They are fast acting and work to remove dead skin cells quickly.

TCA peels (medium peels) help to remove skin cells from the upper and middle part of the skin.  A course of 4 peels is usually recommended; typically each course duration is four weeks, with one peel administered each week.

Bookings; Please note that all bookings for this service are taken by the Abbott Clinic and are carried out at the Abbott Clinic.
